Cafes are an amazing way to soak in a beautiful town. I love to sit in cafes and with every sip I take in the local language, people, music, weather. Its also a great way to listen to the way to greet each other, sound of ceramic cups clinking on table, music made by the coffee machine.

SHILLONG
1. You & I Arts Cafe – This is cafe established by a renowned Shillong artist Wanphai Nongrum, giving an ode to the Meghalaya culture. They serve some amazing coffee and local Meghalaya cuisine. They frequently host Meghalayan artist who play instruments, sing Meghalayan songs, and perform play. On our last day in Shillong we got invited to a theater special which was organised in collaboration with Meghalaya grassroot Music Project – an government arm promoting local music and culture. It was a beautiful peek into a part of my own country miles away from my home. Do not miss out to try their hand churn ice creams and local Meghalaya cuisine snacks.
2. Dylan Cafe – As name suggest, this cafe is dedicated to Bob Dylan for their ambiance and music played. They cater urban westernised Indian food such as sandwiches, pasta, smoothies, etc. I would highly recommend to try their Red chillie hot chocolate milk which is perfect especially in winters.
3. Shillong Cafe – Located in the middle on Shillong town, this beautiful cafe is good for complete indulgence of coffee and continental food. This cafe hosts live music bands adding perfect charm to the breezy cool weather of Shillong.
4. ML 05 Cafe – This cafe is located on highway giving a tribute to the city’s penchant for long drives and biking community. The ambience has quirky headlights, tyres, and number plates. I would highly recommend the momos here to try for.
5. Munchies Cafe – This cafe is a cute machan built that provides serving a variety of cuisine. This place gets vibrant with many youth flocking for the evening chill time.
CHERRAPUNJI
- Café Cherrapunji – This cafe is located in a vintage style bunglow on a hilltop with beautiful view. This cafe is in Mawkdok closer to Cherrapunji and would highly recommend for a pitstop. This café also has an Inn for stay.
- Rain Café – This is a newly opened café close to Polo Orchid resort. Given the minimum option, you can give this café a go.
JOWAI
Quick Bites – This eatery serves delicious home made burgers, chinese and coffee.
Sandstone Villa Café – This is an interesting café made with sandstone with the reading nook.
Café Central – This café is a big eatery serving coffee, food and cakes for ome vacation hunger.
79 Retro Café – This café has a retro themed ambience serving coffee and food while you can catch up on sports.
