Best Cafes to try in Hanoi

Vietnam is the second largest coffee producer in world, which means there is a café in every block. There are so many good cafes in Hanoi, its difficult to choose and experience them within 3 to 5 days. But we did our best to give justice to the cafes that left us with lovely memories or coffee, view, or talks.

1. Dinh CaféThis place goes topmost in our list for two reasons, they serve the best egg coffee in Vietnam as this is where it was invented, and the old days vibes is unbelievable. The café started in 1946 has maintained the furniture, kitchen and even the wall paint from the olden days. Mostly the people come here usually are students, art lovers and music fans. Egg coffee is the specialty of Café Dinh, it’s still made with filter to keep traditional flavor. They also serve chocolate coffee, black coffee, etc. While being seated on extremely tiny chairs and low stools serving as tables we were surrounded by interesting people serving various stories. we spent 2 hours drinking coffee, reading book, and just observing people around us. We took one last trip again before bparding our flight.

2. Ma Xo CafeThis cafe is located in the Truc Bach area. This cafe serves really nice food and coffee and to top it its located on a quaint lane over looking the lake. This place will be ideal when you want to get some reading done or just want some mute time.

This café has perfect spot to enjoy sunset view

3. Hien Minh Tea House – While this is not a café but we have still included it in this list bcoz Tea is love. Speaking for all Tea drinkers here. This Tea house serves some authentic tea from the high mountains of Vietnam and rare to find. We took a Tea ceremony here and would highly recommend visiting this Tea house. Try the signature Lotus tea.

4. Cafe Van MieuThis is a simple cafe located close to temple of literature. They serve nice lunch as well and we really enjoyed the hot coconut coffee here. For some genuine coffee time, I would recommend this place. This place is mainly frequented by locals so waiters barely understand any English.

Hot Coconut milk coffee

5. Cong Cafe – I usually stay away from cafe chains due to heavy doze of standardization. But Cong cafe is an exception in this. We mainly had the pick up of black coffee with condensed milk and croissant wwhich was really tasty. Cong cafe is designed to look like military place which makes it very unique.

6. Note Café – This is a cute café located near the lake with unique ambience of sticking post its everywhere. Honestly I found the food and coffee a bit average here but its ambience really is cute to sit for a while.

Here are some of the other cafes that we wanted to visit but couldn’t:

7. Trade Shop #37 Cafe – communist themed cafe from war time with unique ambience and decor. Unfortunately it was closed when we were in the area.

8. Tranquil books and cafe – Is a lovely place to sit with some book and spend a quiet afternoon time 19 Cao Ba Quat

9. Tiny post cafe – is one of the cute cafes that you must go to enjoy some me time

10. Cafe Duy Tri – Is a spot frequented mostly by locals

11. Cafe Nola – is a hidden alley cafe which makes you feel like you are in someone’s home
